Volume 18 No. 3

Winter and cold have found many of us…so hope all is warm and cozy wherever you are. Thanks to Jamieson Irvine who enjoyed PaB last weekend and shared this beautiful photo! There is no place like PaB – at any time of year!

A million thank yous to so many of you who have already re-upped for the 2026 season! Your early membership helps PaBIA in a myriad of ways!

Please note the upcoming ToA CZBL Public Meeting….

Table of Contents In this eBlast:

  • PaBIA Membership Renewal Reminder
  • In Memoriam – Penny Anne Davidson; John Morden
  • Statutory Public ToA Meeting Comprehensive Zoning By-law – February 18
  • Pointe au Baril Community Centre Library
  • Lake Michigan-Huron Water Levels – January 27, 2026

A friendly reminder to renew your 2026 PaBIA membership — and a special thank you to everyone who has already renewed early! It’s been wonderful to see such strong early support.

Renewing by January 31 helps PaBIA reduce mailing costs by minimizing the stuffing and postage costs of the snail-mail reminder notices sent. Early renewals also help us plan and budget for the year ahead.

Please note: the deadline for membership listing inclusion in the 2026 PaBIA Yearbook remains March 15, but renewing early makes a real difference.

If you haven’t had a chance yet, renewal details and the online payment portal are linked below. If you need assistance or are unable to renew online, please don’t hesitate to reach out — accommodations can be made.

A warm winter welcome from the Pointe au Baril Library, open every Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 am.  From May 24th to September 30th the Library is open on Monday and Wednesday. Everyone in the Township of The Archipelago is welcome to borrow books and puzzles, including the latest best sellers. Many of our Patrons are absent during the winter months; nonetheless, there are two Canadian authors I recommend for your reading pleasure.

The first, a non-fiction, is written by Adam Shoalts whom we have featured in earlier Pointe au Baril Islanders’ eBlasts. His most recent publication, Vanished Beyond the Map: The Mystery of Lost Explorer Hubert Darrellretraces the route of this legendary explorer across thousands of kilometres of wild tundra from Alaska to Hudson Bay, alone and on foot.

The second author, Steve Burrows, has written a series of ten birder mystery murders featuring Canadian DCI Domenic Jejeune as chief investigator. Bitterns, Doves, Falcons, Hummingbirds, Magpies, Cranes, Petrels, Pheasants, Lapwings, and Starlings are prominent as main characters in each crime. These books are a must read for those of you who are infatuated with bird behaviours.
