Jane Wilkins shared these photos and comments: “There are always so many turtles in Leisure Bay’s back bay and often we see them laying their eggs in the gravel around the docks.(The top photo shows a black hole is the nest the turtle digs, then lays her eggs and then fills the hole in again.) Usually the results are that the nest has been dug up and the eggs eaten….but we saw by the dock one hardy hatchling (bottom photo at the edge of the dock) who made it…he was about the size of a toonie. I remember our visiting turtle expert from a couple of summers ago told us that the chances of a turtle making it to maturity can be 1:15,000….Hopefully this little guy makes it!”
