Land Acknowledgement Review: Emma Berton
Emma Berton provided a review of the goals of Land Acknowledgements. Potential next steps for refining PaBIA’s current Land Acknowledgement practices were discussed.
Nomination & Recruitment Update: Mary Thomson
Mary provided an update on the current progress regarding succession and recruitment. A more detailed update will be provided at the next PaBIA Board of Directors meeting.
US/Canada Current Political & Economic Troubles: Dave Sharpe
The implications of the current political and economic tensions between Canada and the US were discussed, particularly with respect to how they may impact PaBIA members and the Pointe au Baril community. The stance and current plans of the Ojibway Club Board and the Township of the Archipelago were also discussed.
The PaBIA board will revisit the discussion as the 2025 summer season approaches.
OTHER BUSINESS:
PaBIA August AM Speaker: A proposal to have David Sweetnam from the Georgian Bay Foundation speak at the Annual Meeting was put forward. Additional potential speakers were discussed.
Nancy’s Collections: Potential temporary and long-term homes for Nancy’s collection of PaBIA maps, posters, and yearbooks were discussed. Secretary-Treasurer Elise will take over the collection from Nancy for the 2025 summer while plans for digitization and storage are explored.
May Directors’ Meeting Guests: Dave requested approval to invite PaBIA’s Council Representatives, Scott Sheard and Earl Manners, to attend the May Directors’ meeting. The request was approved by the Board.
Pre-Season PaBIA Realtors’ “Membership Gift”: The idea of reminding local PauB Realtors about the opportunity to gift a PaBIA membership to new community members was discussed. Dave Shape will follow up with Mike Berton.
