Questions for Township of the Archipelago (TOA) Municipal Council Candidates
A list of potential questions was discussed. The number of questions will be reduced, reworded and prioritized.
TOA ‘Great Neighbour Guidelines’ and short-term rentals
The ‘Guidelines’ are on the TOA website and in our 2022 Yearbook. The list of points is a model for everyone i.e. owners and renters. The issue of short-term rentals and the need for guidelines and by-law enforcement was discussed. Other Townships have short-term rental restrictions in place.
PaBIA’s role is to provide input to the TOA related to by-laws and enforcement. Information in our e-newsletters will remind rental property owners to inform renters of expectations using the guidelines.
Cam Richardson will provide the By-Law Review Committee’s submission to the TOA’s OP Review related to short-term rentals to Dave Sharpe, Michael Phippen and Mark Gwozdecky. They will, along with Mary Thomson’s advice, draft information for an upcoming e-blast. Hilde Clark will ask members for feedback from open-ended questions on the topic in summer e-blasts. Information to be presented to our Councillors will also be drafted for approval.
Yearbook review
The expenses and revenues related to the Yearbook including both printing and mailing costs were reviewed. No change will be made to the invoicing of the Ojibway Club for the books they purchase and their share of postage costs.
Ways to increase revenues were discussed.
If it becomes necessary to change the current Yearbook publishing process and an “outside” editor needs to be found, then consideration would need to be made to increasing revenues to cover the additional expenses that would entail.
Filemaker Pro, the database used to record both PaBIA and Ojibway Club membership information needs to be updated. This will require paid assistance to be completed.
Dave Sharpe, Erica Allen, Mike Berton along with Hilde Clark will form an ad hoc committee to look at ways to ease the large workload of the Communications Portfolio. Dave recommended that Mark Gwozdecky be part of the committee.
Other Business
Several now past-members’ properties have been sold and the new owners have not yet joined PaBIA. Area real estate sales reps and brokers will be provided with the PaBIA brochure with the request that these be given to property purchasers.
Meeting adjourned at 12 noon.
The following PaBIA Committee Chairs & Volunteers and Invited Guests joined the Board for lunch and informal meeting to follow: David Anderson, Margaret Berton, Helen Garber, Brad Honsberger, Trudy Irvine, Randy Johnson, Sandy McLaren and Margie Wheler; Marine Patrollers Roland Binkley and Emma Manners; Township of the Archipelago CAO John Fior and Ward 3 Councillors Earl Manners and Scott Sheard; Bayfield-Nares Association President Anne Stewart; Georgian Bay Association Executive Director Rupert Kindersley; Georgian Bay Biosphere Co-Director Greg Mason; Georgian Bay Forever Chair Terry Clark; Georgian Bay Land Trust Executive Director Bill Lougheed; Ojibway Club President John O’Connell; Ojibway Historical Preservation Society President Bill Watts.

This will be located at the Lighthouse and a commemorative plaque will be placed near the pump in recognition of the donation.
