She opened with PaBIA’s new Land Acknowledgement, which was the result of research and input from all members of the Indigenous Affairs Committee, and ultimately the full Board.

Mark Gwozdecky

Michael Phippen
Nancy Rogers
Dave Sharpe
Virginia Skuce
Mary Thomson

Motion: to elect the slate of nominees for appointment as PaBIA Directors for 2022 – 2023.  Dave Sharpe, Mary Thomson.  Carried.

The three new Directors were introduced: Cath Fairlie (Member Safety), Katie Findlay (Ratepayers and Government Affairs) and Trudy Irvine (Education).

Also introduced were Margaret Berton, Chair of Social Media in the Communications Portfolio and Laura Fischer Dodge who will be one of our two GBA representatives along with Mark Gwozdecky.

Guest Speaker: Peter Frost, Township Ward 2 Councillor and member of the GBA’s Boating Committee

Peter spoke on the topic of floating cottages, structures that are not vessels but moor or attach to shorelines.  Peter circulated several photos of various types of these structures  that are not licensed vessels with motors and therefore have no rights to use our waterways.  In many cases they do not have proper sewage and grey water disposal facilities so there are serious concerns for water quality and environmental damages.   There are very few of these structures currently in the TOA but there are planned resorts using them in areas not far from us.  Both the Federation of Ontario Cottagers Associations and GBA are concerned and are studying the issue.  There needs to be a clear definition of what a “vessel” is and a licensing process.  At present there are no CSA or building code standards enforced.  There are Federal, Provincial and Municipal issues to be addressed.  TOA is reviewing its By-laws.

Closing

Past President Dan Kuhn thanked Erica for her service to PaBIA as a Director and particularly as President during the past two difficult years.

Dave Sharpe presented Erica with the gift of a double Muskoka chair, made locally, with thanks from the Board.

Meeting adjourned.
