Meet the Collins-Halsalls Family: Myesha, Josh and daughter, Lydia, and second child due in February. They are our Habitat family!!
The Islanders and Pointe au Baril Village Community welcome them to the house built through donations and volunteering. The family currently lives/rents in a bachelor apartment in Pointe au Baril and won’t be moving to 132 North Shore Road until sometime early 2020 after contractors and village volunteers have finished some work, and Myesha and Josh have completed their 500 hours of ‘sweat equity’. Josh is a contractor and Myesha will be returning to her job at the LCBO in PaB after her maternity leave. They both love nature and being outdoors, which is why they love Pointe au Baril and plan to raise their family here.
A big thank you goes out to Bob Fisher, Rob Muir and Kieron Bayley for spearheading this energy efficient Habitat for Humanity home project. There are many others who made this joint community project possible. Thanks to you all. The house is a real showcase that you will be learning more about as the house nears completion!
|
Thus far, after a productive summer season, the build is now totally enclosed. Currently, work is being done on the electrical and plumbing phase of the project! With continued support from local businesses and the community, they won’t have long to wait.
For Canadians, donate here. Be sure to select the PaB fund, and include a message for us.
There will be a Community Open House on October 19 at the Community Centre to learn more about this Green House!

PaBIA’s New Member Activities Director
|
PaBIA is delighted to introduce Virginia Walker, our newest Director of Member Activities to fill the void left when Erica Allen became PaBIA’s Vice President!
She is currently working as a Health Promotion Coordinator and Mental Health Specialist for Magna International having over 6 years’ experience in the health and wellness industry.
She is a third-generation cottager in Pointe au Baril: “I have been enjoying my summers on Georgian Bay for over 30 years. During this time, I have held many roles at the Ojibway Club, made lifelong friends, and met my husband. Needless to say, Pointe au Baril holds a very special place in my heart.”
She isn’t new to PaBIA, having taken on a variety of roles in the past including the 2013 & 2014 Junior Regatta, PaBIA Junior Membership Chair in 2016, and organizing PaBIA’s Triathlon from 2017 to 2019. In her various roles, she has worked to increase the awareness of and participation in PaBIA – more specifically the PaBIA Jr. Membership.
I am very excited to take on the role of the PaBIA Activities Director!

OHPS’s Work’s Begun – Sept 3
Gift Shop and Pinewood Cabin
Bye bye, Gift Shop! Tom Todd, of North Shore Barge, is hard at work on a rainy Tuesday in early September to demolish the old gift shop to make ready for the new (and much drier and use-friendly) Ojibway Gift Shop!
Much progress has been made by North Shore to clear the land in preparation for the new Pinewood Cabin being erected along the ‘back channel’ by Ballentine Construction.
