It now appears very unlikely that PaBERT will be able to operate
during this coming summer season. There just are not enough volunteers available at this time. The PaBERT committee comprised of Ed Garner, Faye White set up last season to look into this issue has been unable to find a
solution for this summer.

The Township of the Archipelago, however, is now interested in the problem across the whole township. That is in my view a big step forward. They will move slowly and it would take a miracle to get them to fund a system even though there now is an area supported emergency response and fire system operational in some areas of the southern part of our township.

There is very little we can do to improve the volunteer situation as it is largely caused by population changes in the year round Pointe au Baril community. We will continue to work towards a different solution involving PaBIA, the cottage community as a whole and the township. Hopefully the future holds a sustainable solution for the long run.

Look for some educational materials in a future e-blast that will be helpful in the event of an emergency on your island this summer.
